Founded by Thelma Teixera, ISM started as school allowing students who had recently located to Madeira to access a British education system to which they had become accustomed too. The success of this at the turn of the century and demand from the local community for a school of strong academic performance, allowed the ISM to grow, with its strong focus on academic standards resonating with parents.
After Thelma retired in 2018, a new leadership team took over to drive the school forwards with the same ethos of stong academic performance that is vital for developing children.
As of summer 2024, ISM is a vibrant co-educational school of nearly 100 students representing over 20 nationalities and provides a unique learning environment for children from Nursery through to Year 4. we devote our efforts to the provision of an outstanding education for all children. ISM is the only school in Madeira to offer a structured English curriculum, ensuring each student benefits from an educational pathway that pushes and challenges them.
The school consistently achieves outstanding examination results that surpass Madeiran and global averages. Our 2024 Year 4 exam results achieved a 100% pass rate with a 92% average Grade A* or A, with all pupils being able to transition into their preferred choice of middle & secondary schools.
